Government of India issues Medical Visas for visitors from other countries who wish to undergo medical treatment in India. Medical treatment in India is much sought after because the country provides world-class modern healthcare infrastructure supported by highly qualified and experienced doctors and is available at a fraction of the cost compared to the cost of similar procedures in the developed world.
The government of India issues two types of visas Medical Visa for the patient and Medical Attended Visa (MEDX) for up to 2 attendants accompanying the patient. The attendants must be blood relatives of the patient (applicant). A patient is permitted to enter 3 times on the medical visa in a period of 12 months with each stay not exceeding 60 days

Applicant(patient) must have recommendations or references for specialized treatment on the basis of Preliminary medical checkup and treatment from the Medical experts of origin/residence country. This can be obtained from the hospital that the applicant(patient) got treated in origin/residence country. Official documents of recommendation from the Doctors there has to be obtained.
- It is advisable to obtain a visa invite letter from the hospital in India where medical treatment will be conducted
- Not more than 2 attendants must apply and that the attendants must be blood relatives of the patient (applicant)

- Recommendation from home country doctor  to visit particular specialized medical center for treatment
- Medical documents of the treatments that are done
- Visa invite letter issued by the hospital in India where medical treatment will be performed
- Passport copy of attendant (for Attendant visas)
- Proof of relationship with attendant (for Attendant visas)
